Week Four: A Date With Judy

I'm a Romance snob, so of course my eye was immediately drawn to the Romance lists of comics posted for this week. I chose A Date With Judy because it sounded like a light read along with there being multiple different stories or "dates" to chose from. I ended up reading all of them because I got hooked and lost track of time (I succumbed to the masses and have been in bed with the flu, so as you can imagine, a lot of make up work sits on my plate right now).

The first thing that caught my eye that I have not seen before in the previous comics I have read this year were the advertisements throughout the panels and even on the cover page. It was an interesting thing to see, as it almost reminded me of when I scroll through my Facebook newsfeed and different advertisements interrupt the content from my friends. Was this a popular advertising outlet back in the 50's/60's? ("reply snap" if you know, you know).

Okay focusing on the storyline itself, I loved every minute of it. Judy is so sassy, so bossy, and Oogie was there for it all. I mean, Oogie might as well had a collar and dog leash for Judy to drag him around with because he would not leave her side. It was intriguing to read through a comic where the woman was essentially the dominant knowing these were published back in the 50's; a time where women were typically homemakers. Granted, they seemed to be younger in age (maybe late teens?) and they were clearly not a married couple, it was still amusing to see Judy so fierce and Oogie just fall for it head over feet.
